PATRIOTIC PEBBLES: Place Settings & Presents

Hi friends,

Today we’re continuing with rock painting and sharing an easy way to create place settings for your table, which double as gifts! It’s also an easy and inexpensive way to bring color and festivity to your table. This year, the 4th of July may be entirely different; no firework stands, big gatherings, block parties, or firework shows, but it doesn’t have to be boring. Your local store could still be selling fireworks during the season and /or throughout the year in the party section. Let’s hope for that possibility. If there IS a firework display of sorts, this would be a great way to keep kiddos entertained and start new traditions. And if you find larger stones, they’ll work great for your planters, front steps, or table decor. Check it out below.

What You'll Need

  1. Paper Plate or Newspaper

  2. Craft Paints & Brushes

  3. Rinse Jar

  4. Pencil

  5. Pebbles

    Optional: Sealer, Sharpie

The Steps

  1. Wash off any dirt from the pebbles and dry.

  2. Paint in white, black, or other patriotic color.

  3. Once dry, flip over and paint underside.

  4. With the pencil sketch out your design or wordiing.

I drew stars, a flag, wrote “Stars AND Stripes”, and “Happy Fourth!”

Aged flag- I used tan, a darker red, and blue to create the look I wanted.

5. Paint your designs and wording.

Naomi created a plaid design and then painted “Happy 4!”

I wasn’t happy with the black and white star(left photo, right pebble) so I painted over it with white, added more polka dots, and then painted “Celebrate” in black. Much better!

Naomi added a large gold star to one pebble with red & blue splashes.

On the third pebble, she added stripes and black fireworks.

6. When the pebbles are dry use a sharpie to add the person’s name before sealing (both optional).

We sealed but did not add any names.

That’s it!

Now go out and get your tableware ready because July 4th will be here in a flash!

And now our pebbles in action! They work great to hold plates and napkins down too.
