HORSING Around Card/Sheet

DIY Card, Toy Horse Craft, Horse Card, Dollar Tree Crafts, Cheap Crafts, Easy Crafts, Back To School Card

Hi friends,

Today we have a simple activity with some coloring and toy horses. It’ll also work as a Back-2-School card for your child’s teacher IF you choose. No pressure though. There’s no big to-do’s here about going back to school. Haha.

Even though I’m not running my kids off and wish their summer was longer, they do start in-person schooling soon. Micah is ready to get back into the mix of things and join his “herd” buddies. Naomi on the other hand is quite happy staying home and prolonging her summer lol.

What You'll Need

  1. White Construction Paper

  2. Markers & Colored Pencils

  3. Pencil

  4. Ruler

  5. Toy Horses

  6. Hot Glue

    Optional: White Paint or White-Out

The Steps

Activity Sheet

  1. Turn your paper horizontally and write one of these phrases at the top:

I’ve been HORSING around all summer and I’ll keep at it!

I’ve been HORSING around all summer, there’s no slowing down!

Back 2 School Teacher Card

  1. Turn the paper horizontally and fold it in half.

  2. Use a ruler and pencil for the topics & lines on the inside of the card.

    A few suggestions:

Teacher, Name, Age, Favorite Color, Favorite Food, Birthday, I’m Excited About, I’m Nervous About, and Drawing(open space for your child to draw whatever they want).

  3. Use a marker or colored pencil to trace.

  4. Fill it in for your child or let them do it.

Memento option: Photocopy the filled-out/drawn pages and glue them to each other before folding them in half for a card. Then leave your child a note for the future detailing what you hoped they would learn, the friends they had, their favorite toys/shows/snacks, funny things they said, etc. File away with the upcoming school year’s art/paperwork.

Activity Sheet

2. Draw the grass, flowers, plants, insects, sun, and/or clouds.

Optional: paint the clouds white with paint or White-Out or use a white colored pencil.

3. Draw the horse/s or glue the toy ones on. Naomi drew her horse using this site.

That’s it!

Back 2 School Teacher Card

5. On the front and top portion of the card write:

I’ve been HORSING around all summer, I can’t wait to join the HERD! (We had a mini flub on the wording and had to use White-Out. It produced a cool effect. We then applied it on the clouds too for emphasis.)

6. Draw the grass, flowers, plants, insects, sun, and/or clouds.

Optional: paint the clouds white with paint or White-Out or use a white colored pencil.

7. Draw the horse/s or glue the toy ones on. (I did both)

That’s it!

Naomi drew a great horse!

I did NOT use the site and free-handed 4 horses very poorly. They sort of look like cows and donkeys haha.

IF….. you decide to send the card to your child’s teacher, consider including a tangible,

“Hi, so happy YOU’RE my child’s teacher!”, like a gift card, small fruit box, water & flavor mixes, etc.

: )

Happy crafting!

Amanda and Naomi
