SONIC The Hedgehog

Hi friends,

The new year will be here before we know it and immediately after that, a birthday celebration for us too. I’m thankful for my kid’s creativity & imagination because at times I have none, especially after the holidays. Haha. Then my kids or life happenings will inspire a craft or activity, just like today! Who knew that random shapes could come together so nicely? Check out our fun Sonic the Hedgehog below!

What You'll Need

  1. (2) Large Blue Paper Plates, (1) Large White Paper Plate

  2. Pencil

  3. Colored Pencils

  4. Scissors

  5. Hot Glue

    Optional: Craft Paints

The Steps

Banana Shape

  1. Draw a short & thick banana on a white plate. Repeat if you’d like on other white plates.

  2. To the left draw a line, following the curve, about 2 inches long.

Mitten Shape

1. Place your left hand over the left side of the banana, separate your fingers into a V, and trace a narrow oval shape, stopping about 2/3 of the finger.

2. Place 4 fingers to the right of the oval, to create the larger part of the mitten.

Fingers & Thumb Shape

  1. Trace your pinky finger for the eyes and your thumb for the nose.

  2. OPTIONS: Use colored pencils(above) or craft paint and fill in the eyes, nose, and mouth area.

  3. Cut out the face and save the extra pieces.

  4. Draw a triangle onto the extra piece of plate, color/paint it a cream color, then cut it out. Set aside.

Palm Leaf Shape

  1. Flip 1 blue plate upside down, then on the left side, draw half a large palm leaf, with 3 -4 sections.

  2. Rotate the plate to the other side and repeat the palm leaf drawing, this time with 2-4 narrower sections.

  3. Cut out the outer edge of the leaves minus the middle section.

Pie Slice Shape

1. Cut the middle section out, the shape of a pie slice. Set aside the leaf portions.

2. Fold the pie slice in half, trace around the previously made triangle, and then cut out both blue pieces(ears).

3. Flip 1 blue ear over and glue the cream-colored triangle onto it.

Far right: Colored face Right: Painted face

Assemble

  1. Use the hot glue to attach the face onto the 2nd blue plate, the 2 ears, and *1 or both hair(leaf) pieces.

*Trim the hair pieces to fit around the blue plate 1st.

    That’s it!

Happy crafting!
