Patriotic Noisemakers

Hi friends,

We have a festive way for kiddos to make noise WITHOUT all the firework cleanup! These little firecracker noisemakers can be filled with beans, pasta, rice, beads, paperclips, pebbles, or other small things for various sounds. So pull out your empty aluminum cans, colorful paper, glue, and small items to make noise with. Check out our patriotic noisemakers below!

What You'll Need

  1. Striped Popcorn Bags

  2. Red, White, Blue Construction Paper

  3. Pencil

  4. Scissors

  5. Hot Glue

  6. Small Items for noise

The Steps

We used mini cans and popcorn bags but you may use any sized can and any colorful paper.

  1. Line your can up with the top of the bag and cut 1 & 1/2 inches below the can.

  2. Cut the upper part of the bag in half.

  3. (Not shown) Fold a 1.5-inch to 2-inch piece of construction paper over and cut. Fold that double strip into 1/3’s or 1/4’s and draw a star on the top. Carefully cut out the star to create multiple stars. Repeat with the other colors.

4. Pour 1/4 to 1/3 cup of small items inside your cans.

5. Lay your popcorn bag face down, upside down, and with precut edge near the bottom of the can. If using other paper, make sure the bottom of the can is lined up with one of the edges of the paper.

6. Add a strip of hot glue along the length of the can and carefully press the paper down. Roll the rest of the paper around the can and glue down the other end.

7. Stand the can up, add a bit of glue to the top, and carefully start folding over the cut edge, adding more glue to seal it completely.

8. Flip your can upside down, glue 3-4 overlapped stars together, and onto the new top.

9. Lastly, decorate the can with stars.

That's it!

Now your kiddos can create their own festive noise!

Happy crafting!
