Summer Sunset Drawing

Hi friends,

We start school THIS week! Everyone has mixed emotions, but mostly in regards to summer ending so soon. Today we’re soaking up the last bits of summer and sharing our gorgeous sunset hues with you. Our sunsets are layered within a sun shape, blended slightly, then surrounded by pillowy clouds. Check out our summer sunsets below!

What You'll Need

  1. Sketch/White Paper

  2. Colored Pencils

  3. Bowl

    Optional: Facial Tissue

The Steps

  1. Choose a color within the sunset to trace the bowl onto your paper.

  2. Turn your paper horizontally, place the bowl in the upper middle section, and trace it.

  3. You can start by coloring the sun with the lightest color as Naomi did, then softly layering the colors over each other OR as I did, layering in a more defined way.

I overlapped the colors a bit and used some pink to help blur the color edges a bit.

We both used facial tissue to soften the whole sunset.

Our clouds varied as well, Naomi with light colors and mine with just one.

4. Draw clouds around the sun or under.

5. Last, write Summer Sunset on the page.

That’s it!

Micah created a much simpler sunset then flipped his over to create his own summer sun on the back! : )

Matty joined us too and followed Micah’s fun-sun example.

This was so easy and came out beautifully.

Happy crafting!

Amanda and Naomi
