The Lorax: Truffula Trees

Hi friends,

We’re sharing how we made our colorful, swirled Truffula Trees from The Lorax with pipe cleaners and twigs.

Last week, we shared how to make the Dr. Seuss character, The Lorax, and displayed it with smaller Truffula trees. We’ll share how we made these larger trees (3+ inches) with colored paper, even some of our scraps, and how you can easily make last week’s (2-ish inch) trees with fewer steps. Check it out below.

TRUNKS

  1. Paint your twigs white and add black lines to them.

  2. Let the twigs dry on newspaper or other protective cover.

TREE

  1. Stack your papers and trace the wider part of the cup. If you’re making more than five trees, repeat the step.

  2. Cut out the circles and set them aside.

SWIRLS

  1. Hot glue the ends of two pipe cleaners, slightly overlapped, to create a long pipe cleaner. Press them gently together and then add a third one at the end.

  2. Create a small spiral with the first section of three, hot glue it to the center of the matching tree, swirl the long pipe cleaner around, and add tiny amounts of glue along the way.

  3. Continue swirling, gluing, and adding extra pipe cleaners if necessary. If you run out of space on the paper, cut the pipe cleaner and add the extra piece/s to the exposed areas.

  4. Repeat the steps with the rest of the colors.

ASSEMBLE

  1. Turn your trees over and hot glue the trunks onto them.

That’s it !

SMALL TREES

  1. Use skewer sticks for the trunks, cut down to size.

    Painting is optional.

  2. Repeat the steps for the large trees with a smaller container, any color of construction paper, and matching pipe cleaners (3-5 per tree)

    That’s it
