TOY STORY 5: Lilypad

Hi Friends,

This week, we created the newest antagonist of the Toy Story franchise, the adorable-looking, frog-like, learning tablet: Lilypad.

Over the years, our kids have owned Leap Frog learning toys, so making a Lilypad version brought back some nice memories. Check it out below.

PREP: BASE, HANDS/FEET, EYELIDS

  1. Turn your green sheet vertically, draw a wide rectangle shape with rounded corners(toy base), and use the small container to draw two ears.

    a) Cut the base out.

  2. Fold the green scraps twice, draw a frog hand/foot with three fingers/toes, and cut through the layers to create four total.

  3. Use the cup to draw narrow eyelids (optional, for the angry frog)

EYES & MOUTH

  1. Fold a strip of white paper, trace the scoop once for the eyeballs, and then cut them out.

Angry Frog- Glue the eyelids slanted onto the eyes, trace most of the glue stick end for each iris, and near the inner part of the eye, add a glare circle to the right of each eye, color in the iris black, and outline the eyelid in black.

Mouth: The smile will be drawn on later.

Happy Frog- Trace the glue stick end in the center of the eye, draw a small glare circle to the right of each eye, and color in the iris’ black.

Mouth: Trace half the scoop, cut it out, draw a heart for the tongue, color it red, and then fill in the rest with the black marker.

SCREEN

  1. Turn your blue paper horizontally, fold it in half, and then fold two inches back.

  2. Cut the remaining rectangle out with rounded corners.

  3. Fold the black paper in half, place the blue screen over it, draw a narrow edge around the screen, and cut out the black background.

  4. Glue the screen to the black background.

ASSEMBLE & MESSAGE

  1. Glue the assembled screen to the frog base, the hands/feet to each corner, the eyes at the top, and add five grey dots by each eye.

Angry Frog: Draw a side smile on the face with the black marker and write Let’s Play! with the white marker or colored pencil, then outline with the blue marker.

Happy Frog: Glue the smile onto the face and write Hi! Let’s play! with the colored pencil, followed by the blue marker, or use the white marker instead.

That’s it!

Happy crafting,

Amanda and Naomi
