"Lighting Up My Christmas" Thank You Cards

Hi friends,

Christmas is this week! Though most of our shopping is done (kept it simple), we HAVEN’T wrapped a thing. Which also means we have nothing under the tree. The kids are pretty concerned lol. But on Friday we had such an amazing treat, Micah’s teacher made a quick stop at our house and dropped off a gift for him. It was such a sweet and needed gesture during this whole year. It was also the 1st time in the school year, we’d seen each other in person. We’ll never forget it. We thanked her in person, but it just didn’t communicate how we felt. I told Micah, we had to do something more to thank her, we just weren’t able to give/send her a card(these would be great for teachers too). He suggested sending her a video message, which I thought was perfect and I’d top it off with the emailed gift card, I had planned.

It got me thinking about how the littles could show thankfulness to family who’d bless them this Christmas. They can’t purchase anything but they could put a little effort into making them a Thank You card. The card has a Christmas theme which doubles as a memento for them. The littles can use fingerprints for the lights or Q-tips for less mess. Check it out below!

What You'll Need

  1. Medium Weight Construction Paper

  2. Long Envelopes #10 (1 per card)

  3. Paper Plate/Paint Tray

  4. Craft Paint

  5. Markers

Optional: Newspaper/Table Cover, Wipes, Ruler, Q-Tips

The Steps

1.Turn your paper horizontally and fold over 3 inches.

2. Fold back the excess(right side) under the top fold, 1/2 inch.

3. Fold the last piece(left side) under the 2 other folds, leaving a 1/2 inch edge.

Or just fold into thirds

4. Write: Thank You _____________ (space for the name) for Lighting Up my Christmas (leave a big space under) this year with… in pencil and marker or just in marker.

5. Go over with other markers, dotting the “i’s,” outlining “Christmas”, and making the string for the lights, starting at the “s” from Christmas.

6. Open up the card and continue making the string.

Repeat as many times as needed and using different colors.

7. Have your child leave a note and/or their name on the inside, last section.

8. Place newspaper under your card, squeeze the paints onto your plate and start adding prints(lights) to the front string.

9. Let dry before moving onto the inside lights.

*Micah had fun but got weary after his 3rd card haha. Matthias quit after his 1st, so mom helped. They had 4 each. Q-tips might be the way for your littles.

10. If you choose to, your kiddos can add a print to the back flap of the envelope.

11. When the cards/envelopes are dry, set aside until after the kiddos have opened up their gifts.

12. When it’s time to mail the cards, have them address the person on the front and on the inside make lines for each gift received that “lit up” their Christmas.

That’s it!

Your loved ones will enjoy the surprise : )

I hope your kiddos will enjoy being gift givers and bucket fillers, all of their lives.

Happy crafting and Merry Christmas!
