Layered Paper Rainbow Sky

Hi friends,

We have a beautifully layered, rainbow sky for you! Instead of the standard pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, I envisioned brilliant colors as our backdrop and leprechaun accessories. Our sunset includes a cute springy hat, boots, and a pot of jewels & gold. Choose multiple shades/tints or just one and whether to have raw or straight edges. Check out our layered paper rainbow sky below.

What You'll Need

  1. (1) Sheet of Red & (1) Green

  2. (1/2) Sheet of Orange, Yellow, Green(lighter/darker than the full sheet), Blue, Purple, Pink

  3. A Scrap of Black or 1/4 Sheet

  4. Pencil

  5. Scissors

  6. Liquid Glue or Glue Stick

  7. Sequins, Glitter, or Foil Confetti

The Steps

PREP

  1. Fold your whole green sheet in half and tear/cut it. One half will be used for the layered sky and the other for the grass at the bottom of the page.

  2. You may leave your *1/2 sheets untorn or tear the top edges of the orange, yellow, dark/light green(this will be used for the hat), blue, purple, and pink.

  3. Cut a small rectangle from the bottom edge of the yellow sheet, fold the rectangle in half twice, and cut out the inside corner. This will be the buckle on the hat.

  4. Grab the 1/2 sheet of lighter/darker green that does NOT have a 2nd half reserved. Slightly fold the green sheet at the bottom, draw half a hat, and cut it out.

*We used 2 oranges, 1 yellow, 3 greens, 2 blues, 1 purple, and 2 pinks over the red sheet.

RAINBOW SKY

  1. Glue your orange 1/2 sheet over the red(straight across or slightly angled), leaving about 1/2 inch of the red visible and the top edge of the orange unglued.

  2. Continue with the yellow layer, both green 1/2 sheets(light & dark), blue, purple, and pink, and leave the top edges of each unglued.

  3. End with the grass, using the reserved 1/2 green sheet.

LEPRECHAUN ACCESSORIES

  1. Fold your black scrap or 1/4 sheet in half, draw 1 boot, 1/2 of a pot, 1 long strip at least 4 inches long, then cut each out.

2. Glue the black strip and buckle to the hat.

3. Flip the hat over, fold the strip on each side into little accordion folds to create the spring, and glue the bottom fold to the hat.

4. Flip the hat back over and glue the accordion folds onto the grass, with the boots underneath.

5. Glue your pot down and add your gold coins & jewels(sequins or glitter).

RAINBOW SKY

4. Form clouds with the glue and spread the glue around with the tip before adding glitter, sequins, or foil confetti. Let it dry for about 10 minutes.

That’s it!

These came out great!

Happy crafting!
